古い一葉の写真がここにあります。 大正十二年元旦、八百新酒造の創業者である八百屋新三郎(安政四年生まれ)が当時の得意客にあてた年賀状用に作成したものです。 『周防岩國今津川口八百新全景』と題されたこの写真には、今津川の｢雁木｣と呼ばれた船着場と広壮なかつての岩國藩の屋敷跡（『御茶屋』）、八百新酒造の蔵、そして新三郎の邸宅が写っています。 明治二十四年の創業から大正・明治の長きに亘り、周防の美酒として人気を博した『新菊』の醸造元・八百新の懐かしい姿をここに見ることができます。この写真で注目したいのは、創業者である父・新三郎が、二代目を継ぐべき息子・収に託す思いです。新三郎はこの写真の左右に自身と息子の肖像を並べています。そして、そこに一言こうあります。｢倅（せがれ）八百屋収｣。 『新菊』も新三郎の｢新｣と妻の名｢菊｣から命名したもの。 八百新の歴史は、この父と子、そして夫と妻の愛情と絆の物語なくしては語ることはできません。

A piece of quite an old photograph is here shown at the top of the center frame. This is the very one that the founder of Yaoshin Breweries Co., Ltd., Shinzaburoh Yaoya, had it taken and printed as a New Year greeting card for his customers in 1923. In the photo, on which a caption says: "A whole picture of Yaoshin Residence along the river front of Imazu, Iwakuni, Suoh", then called Gangi, which is a landing place of river ships, former Kikkawa Clan's residences, the warehouse of Yaoshin Breweries, and the residence of Shinzaburoh's family appear against Shiroyama Hill where Iwakuni Castle stands now. No doubt you will find here in this photo the brilliant dignity of Yaoshin Breweries, the brewer of "Shingiku", which was being acclaimed so much by Sake lovers as the best honorable and splendid Sake of Suoh ever from 1891 when it was born and Yaoshin was established down to Taisho and Showa eras. What we should take a notice of most in the photo, however, is how the founder and the father Shinzaburoh gave deep regards to his son and the successor Osamu. Possibly out of his heartfelt desire to give encouragement to Osamu as well as the wish that those loving Yaoshin's Sakes would continue giving the support to him, he placed the figure of himself at right and that of Osamu at left, and he put a word there: "Osamu Yaoya, my dear son." What we shouldn't forget to tell also is that the very name of "Shingiku" was named after Shinzaburoh and his wife Kiku. Thus, the history of Yaoshin cannot be told without telling a story of deep love and bond of a father and his son, and a husband and his wife.
